WEEK ONE
edamura makoto
First Choice: Maya
[Edamura stands up tall and straight as Maya's name is called, lifting a hand to adjust the tie at his neck, visibly nervous!! when asked for his explanation, those nerves seem to melt away as a small smile appears on his face. he gives a rather simple answer]
She's the kind of person I might ask out even if we weren't on this show. Kind and determined, but still unwilling to take any lip from anyone else. I can already see her trying really hard for the sake of everyone here, and that's. . . admirable.
I enjoy her company, and think we'd have a good time together. That's all.
Second Choice: Shoko
[Edamura shuffles nervously as Shoko is called to the stage, but he does seem to relax when she approaches, a smile working its way onto his features. when asked for his reasoning, he lifts a hand to rub at the back of his neck]
My reason? She's pretty cool, you know? And very easy to talk to though I wish she wouldn't call me Mame-chan? I appreciated her looking for me the other night when I was a little. . . out of it.
Small gestures go a long way, you know?
Third Choice: Odile
[contrary to what one may have come to expect from the otherwise outwardly nervous Edamura, he seems relatively confident as Odile takes the stage. his smile is more of an amused smirk, but it's fond! appreciative!!]
She keeps telling me to have more confidence. I mean, she's not the only one, but I guess that means I probably should! Anyway, we had a nice time together the other night, too.

First Choice: Messmer + I hesitated at first, you know, afraid that you might think I was pitying you. But I’m not. If you weren’t my pick for today, it might’ve been the next time, because I do want to get to know you better from here on out. And what better starting point is there than being gawked at by our peers on stage? Besides, “The Impaler and the Expeditioner” has a nice ring to it, don’t you think?
Second Choice: Nico + Charming, handsome, with an eye for art and an ear for music. And that oh-so enticing allure of being a vampire! What’s not to like? You’re a bright spot of light, Nico, and if I get to share in even a fraction of it, I’m a better man for it.
Third Choice: Luka + You seem like someone who lives and breathes his art, and I’d be stupid not to take that into account as a potential match. There’s an air of mystery to you that I can’t help but want to peel back — what’s underneath? Maybe I’ll get the chance to find out.

Third Choice: Verso: "I've enjoyed your company way too much to not hope for more of it. Who knows? Maybe our match of taking it easy will extend even beyond these four short weeks."

First Choice: Ringo. After all, you were very popular when we were discussing who to elect for the Truth Booth, but we are still partners-in-organization! More seriously, it's my hope that we'll experience many new things together. Your joie de vivre is enchanting. I'm not even sure I can keep up.
Second Choice: Miss Yingying. I bet you're surprised, aren't you? Because I'm a great listener, I've taken the words of Miss Maya and the others to heart. If it really is as simple as wishing for the freedom to take in more than the world...well, then we'll both be so much closer to having that opportunity! Just...stop laying it on so thick, all right?
Third Choice: Serpilia. Simply put, we have some aligned interests, and I think we could have fun together. We haven't had the chance to study or discuss the more in-depth merits of our match, but hopefully we get that chance soon.

If I must summarize the reason I've called your name, it would be your lilting stride. First Choice: Yi Sang - [ It was agreed they would choose each other, but there ceremony is still nerve-wracking in its own way -- not the kind of nervousness she would shy away from, she is not a shy person, but one that makes her uneasy nonetheless.
... The words she speaks are easy though, gaze unwavering as Odile stares at Yi Sang. ]
"I have always liked the way you word things, Yi Sang. I am not... a particularly creative person, nor would I say I am poetic or romantic or anything of the sort -- but I suppose you inspire such in me, if only because I feel it easy to do so when replied to with. There is a card game in Ka Bue that is played much the same: karuta, in which one must snatch the correct ending to a line of poetry or proverb sung out rhythmically by a speaker.
That... is how I feel you and I speak at times."
[ It's a game she enjoys, seeing what might come from each play. Her hands fold into her sleeves, continuing after a moment. ]
"But that is not why I intended to choose you tonight. You are a wanderer. While bereft of direction, I have never once seen you as truly lost nor in need of a guide; I think that your travels, however long they may last, are to be filled with experiences that will ground you, shape you, and help you become someone you may be able to smile at in the mirror. Second Choice: Yingying - "Yingying. When first we met, you asked if I wasn't one to believe in fate, magic, nor folktales. Out of all of those... I had the least faith in fate, and said as much. To my surprise, you agreed."
[ It had been the first hint of something... more to the whimsical "fairy"; a crease in her brow, a wrinkle in a perfectly light petal, and Odile had taken notice of it. Had still thrown such frustrated words in light of Yi Sang's own at the end of the week, even if she'd ended up asking for more on Yingying's end.
She continues after a moment, gaze unwavering. ]
"... Fate is something you have to shape with your own hands. The same is true of our futures, of wishes, of anything we would like to see manifested in our lives -- including your own, rooted as you seem." [ A soft huff, expression a bit gentler. ] "... I was taken by the blossoms that surrounded you, like many others had been; in parting those curtains I found not the delicate stem of a flower, nor a sapling bent to a stream, but the sturdy trunk of a tree that had long since been taken for granted. For its shade, its scent, its beauty, and left alone save for when one needed it.
I have ever enjoyed our time together. Your words may be playful here and there, but they are sincere in their desire -- in your desire -- to lighten others, to see them smile, to ease the burden of their worries if only for a moment. And yet, to whom do yours belong? Do your branches not weigh heavy with grief, with loneliness, with being 'other'? You are genuine in your efforts, in your happiness, but such warmth is fleeting once the flame has run out.
... I was moved, truthfully, when you spoke of yourself to me, and asked my advice on something that weighed on your mind. [ There's doubtless others who she'd perhaps prefer, others who have offered, but... Odile is not one to care much for others in that sense: she will offer, and if it is not accepted then it is not accepted.
Still, she has a bit more to say, and she does so as she lifts her hand to Yingying. ]
"I want for a companion who may read my heart, or give me time and reason to speak it honestly. You have done so in good faith. Who understands what it means to be 'other' amidst a crowd of those similar yet dissimilar to them, who has felt aimless and unsteady in realization. You have, though it is remedied here somewhat by our unknowing of you.
No, I do not believe in fate, nor will I ever. But I do know that a journey is better taken with another at your side, and that I'd like to see what kind of future you imagine for yourself."

She holds her hand out, waiting for Yingying to come join her on stage.

"You're really cute and really cool, but we also get along so well, you know? Maybe it's not the most romantic thing to say or whatever, but I feel like we could just hang out, doing absolutely nothing, and I would be happy with that alone. And that's got to count for something."

"You know what? I can see us being together. You've got this whole thing going on," she vaguely waves a hand at whatever he's wearing, "but if it works for your image then it works, right? But some of what you're into is actually pretty cool, and I can see us being complementary.
"Also, you don't actually suck. ... Far from it, in fact."

First Choice: Odile + On a spring day, I made a mirror and named it Yeonsim.
It was a plaything from which we sourced laughter, born of our love of technology as stars rose in our eyes. In the days following the tearing of my wings, I clung to the mirror as it was all I had left . . . until, at my left-handed self's behest, I abandoned it to wander in search of a myth.
Reason dictates that all things come to an end. Thus, I remained apathetic in the faces of joy and sorrow upon my arrival at this estate. As my feet ached from walking for so long, I sought to stop while others around me were in motion; however, it was in that frenetic blur of locomotion that I heard tell of matters such as change and faith, as well as grief.
. . . The night I dreamed, it was neither yellow camellias nor wisteria that greeted me, but the laughter of children who sought joy within each other. Back then, a broken branch was enough to put smiles on our faces. And that was when I began to understand.
A companion rises with you in place of walls, so that you may fly unchained. Their keen eyes reflect the stars in yours as you soar by their side. The fall will come, as does the night; however, so long as you live, the sun will emerge and your wings, too, shall flap once more . . . just as Carl found it in himself to flutter again after the passing of his beloved wife, Ellie.
[ He turns to regard everyone with a soft smile before angling himself to hold Odile's gaze. ]
And so, my dear fellows . . . while the algorithm's workings elude me, I must insist that I sit with Miss Odile, for that would be most ideal. I have conversed with more than the fox, the rose, and the snake. It is a splendid thing for your thoughts to be received clearly, and grander still to walk these parallel paths. Though I have yet to decide what should lie before me . . . the moon in the pond, no matter how distorted, is unchanging. And such is all I have to say.
Second Choice: Luka + One's reflection is the opposite of oneself, yet quite similar. Such familiarity is not oft found outside of a mirror, where it can be touched and seen beside; thus, I must wonder if there glimmers a thread of possibility that might connect us.

First Choice: Aventurine + "We kind of went in a crazy direction, didn't we? When we first met, I did feel like there was an understanding between us and we clicked pretty quickly. I wanted to see more of your real smile. But, you know? I still got to see it, didn't I? And you found someone who'll see right through you, which is all I could ever want for you. So if we're matched, then I'll accept that as us being two pretty cool people who are most definitely friends now and who managed to score some amazing partners in the process!"
Second Choice: Edamura + "We're travel buddies now, okay? I'm holding you to it!"

"Okay, so... Haha. What the hell happened? Yi Sang, I choose you.~ We've come a long way since that time we stood at the pond together, huh? I really thought you were going to drown yourself if I stepped away, you know. But look at you now. I hope you can see how much you've changed in the last four weeks, too. I know I have, and I have you to thank for that, too."

First Choice: Shoko. "It's pretty obvious by now that we're each other's match, right? I mean, beyond the math and all of that, I've been thinking that already by the end of week two anyway. If it weren't for the fact that neither of us were actually able to pick last week, I definitely would have already picked you. And you know what?
